My Approach

While I certainly can keep things simple, I take a comprehensive approach to finding the source of your pain and/or limitations with movement. Following evaluation, we will zoom into the affected area(s) to decrease those symptoms, restore more normal range of motion, increase stability of the joint(s), and strengthen the surrounding muscles.

To ensure these parts connect and function with the rest of your body, we will then look for general sources of disconnect like: how well can you breathe without your neck muscles turning on (we average 20,000 breathes per day); can your spine rotate naturally when you walk (we generally aim for 10,000 steps per day); do your rib cage and pelvis stay connected with ease during various acts of daily living and exercise (this allows us to properly breathe and walk). I find these to be major players as the source for movement dysfunction in majority of the people I work with.

By discovering the patterns that your body is holding onto, we can begin to tune up your foundation. We'll gradually reposition your rib cage and pelvis to allow their diaphragms to lead normal breathing. Creating these connections prevents your muscular system from having to support your skeleton so it can better drive it. Being able to manage the pressures in your body is key.

As we use the respiratory system to bridge the brain and body, we will cover how to use these tunes up throughout your day and how to carry them over into exercise. This is how you maximize this treatment approach and reinforce longer term changes.

Every treatment is tailored specifically to each individual's needs and goals. You'll receive education about why any sort of pain and/or movement dysfunction developed in the first place and how to become more independent and successful with managing your symptoms and performance. Bring all of your questions and we will sort through each one so that you can use this education for the rest of your life.

For those with more complex cases, I team up with an airway specialist, a behavioral neuro optometrist, functional dentist, podiatrist, and mental health counselor with a specialty in trauma management who also provides neurofeedback. These providers understand the importance of integration with the body and perform appropriate assessment to determine whether an external device or other intervention is necessary. When sequenced correctly, patients generally experience significant pain reduction and/or access to more effortless movement due to the nervous system having the support it needs to integrate with the body and the environment. These referrals are on a case by case basis.

About me

My name is Brandon Le Burkien and I am both a movement rehabilitation and performance specialist. While using movement as medicine, I teach people how to work toward effortless movement. My experience comes from practicing as: Doctor of Physical Therapy in orthopedics and neurology for the past six years with a specialty in spinal rehabilitation and multi-system brain and body integration; Postdoctoral certification from the Postural Restoration Institute® with a focus on tuning up multiple sensory systems with the motor system; Personal training for twenty-three years in everything from sports performance, boxing and body building to yoga, weight loss, and designing cardiovascular endurance programs; Coached and competed in the sport of weightlifting for ten years with a focus in strength and reflex development.

I have earned the bulk of my expertise in teaching human movement from these practices. Both the feel and the understanding of how to increase ones ability to move without stress really drives me to continue to learn. I also enjoy helping people with more complex signs and symptoms that haven't been able to find answers or help for their persistent pain and/or limitations with movement.

Getting Help

Sometimes our bodies do not cooperate with our minds. The School of Movement has taken the sciences of human movement, the literature on rehabilitation and performance, the clinical practice of pain management, and the dynamics of strength and conditioning to synthesize the material into a program that teaches you how to use your body so that it follows your mind.

The School of Movement offers multiple programs written by a Doctor of Physical Therapy who is also a strength and conditioning coach. Whether you are looking for one on one care or you are up for the home study programs, you are in good hands. These Programs range from repositioning your body, to airway management, and tuning up all the components of your balance system. For those seeking performance enhancement, personal training and exercise programming will carry over the concepts and techniques from physical therapy to ensure proper body mechanics and injury prevention.

Why doesn't anyone teach this stuff? I feel like I could have saved myself the need to get a knee replacement.
